Whatever your level, Energy Drink is here for the highs and lows.
I was asked to write the exhibition description for Energy Drink, the inaugural special exhibition at Museum of Museums. Through interviews with the collaborating artists and research into their individual practices, I crafted two directions for consideration. Both directions were written to easily adapt to various platforms. The direction from the client was to write something that understood who the artists are individually, as well as how they collaborated to create this specific experience with its own narrative. After one round of edits, below is what the client approved for use:
Energy Drink is an immersive installation that heightens the emotional potential of interior spaces. The surreal feeling of familiarity in a place you’ve never been. The discomfort of sitting in a dystopian present. The pleasure of light that warps the world at its edges. Whatever your level, Energy Drink is here for the highs and lows.
A collaboration between digital artist Neon Saltwater and abstract painter Brian Sanchez, Energy Drink creates a found and fabricated environment that transforms the mundane into a contemplative experience through color, interior design, lighting, and the elusive euphoria of vacant and transitory spaces. Neon Saltwater’s uncanny interiors become a life-size fantasy set, a minimalist stage for Brian Sanchez’s paintings and sculptures. The rich paintings use an emotive palette that responds to the lighting design and activates the pervasive loneliness buzzing between the roomscapes. Energy Drink makes abstraction tangible.

A writer and curator exploring the liminal spaces of the literary arts. I am the author of two chapbooks and have fiction, reviews, and poetry published widely. My interest in how words can be experienced has led to solo work and collaborations to create installations, music performances, broadsides, karaoke, and video poetry. I founded and directed Till, a literary organization that offered an annual writing residency, and am currently co-director of Cadence Video Poetry Festival at Northwest Film Forum.
